There’s three months to go until this year’s Earth Science Week, which can only mean one thing – the return of the Earth Science Week photo competition!
Previous years have seen a host of stunning entries, and we’re hoping for more of your amazing geological images this year, as part of our celebrations of the geology of the UK & Ireland. 2019 sees a change to the usual rules – to celebrate our theme of ‘Geoscience is for everyone’, we’re opening up entries to images of geology from anywhere in the world!
The twelve winning images will be displayed at the Geological Society’s HQ in Burlington House throughout Earth Science Week – and as often as we can during the ensuing year – as well as featuring in our popular Earth Science Week calendar.
Previous winners have also featured prominently in the media, including in The Guardian, The BBC and the Daily Mail, to name a few!
Geoscience is for everyone
This year’s Earth Science Week theme is ‘Geoscience is for everyone’ – whether you’re into mountains, volcanoes, minerals, fossils or climate change, whether you want to attend lectures, run school geoscience clubs or simply stargaze from a window, geoscience can be done anywhere and is for everyone!
This year’s photo competition is celebrating the theme by inviting images of the geology all around us from anywhere in the world. Send us pictures of geology where you live, a favourite holiday destination, a place you’ve studied or worked at, or somewhere that inspires you! Whatever you choose, please submit your photographs with a few lines about the subject of your image and/or what the site means to you.
